happy anniversary

Yesterday was our anniversary.

three. years.

It's gone by so fast. SO fast. And we've been together for 5.

When Danny got home from work he played (and sang a teeny bit) of the song "five years" by David Bowie, one of his fav's.

I love that man so damn much. Sometimes I can't believe that I get to have him forever. And ever.

Do you ever have the urge to put your wedding dress on again? Not that I would fit into it right now- but that day was so magical. I want to twirl in that dress again someday.

Not many peole get to see his goofy side- but it's one the many, many things I love about him so very much.

well hello there...

...sorry I've been MIA. I've been a bit busy, and I kinda forgot that I had a blog. Oops.

Some of the things I've been so busy with include:

...making fun easter gifts for friends babies/children...
...getting ready for another boutique...
...making some matching mom/daughter aprons...
...waking up every morning for the past 2 weeks to cat poop on the floor...
...and my parents sweet little doggie went to heaven.

So really, I have a pretty good life, since the only thing that has me pulling my hair out is trying to figure out WHY the littlest cow poops on the floor, in the same spot, every damn morning. The rest of the day she goes in her box. She pees in her box. I swear she's just doing it to mess with me.

So anywayzzz. I'll be back to blogging here shortly, and pray that it's not all about cat shit.

monkey buisness

This is Mikey Monkey. Pattern from mmmcrafts. He wasn't hard to make- but he did take me a long time. Very worth it, as you can see. Have I mentioned how amazingly well her patterns are written? They are perfect. I want to send her all the patterns that frustrate me to death so that she can re-write them and make them easier.

He has a crush on Katy Kitty, but she's too cool to notice.

I made his plaid shorts out of a thrifted button up shirt, and his shirt is an old tee that I embellished with an argyle pattern. It wasn't until I was finished and I looked at him all put together that I realized he is dressed like an old golfer. But it's okay- he's really cute anyway!

I love his little tennis shoes...

...and his little baseball hat.

itching to have a green thumb

(pallet garden found here)

I want one. I have nowhere to put it. Besides, I'd just kill it anyway.

But this kitchen wall herb garden? Now that is something I might be able to handle! I'll post photos if I actually get it done, I have a TON of other projects that are due before Easter so this will just have to wait.

I love the idea of having fresh herbs to add to all the new recipes I've been trying out (thanks for all the suggestions BTW! The husband and I are much happier in the dinner department...now if I could just get the cleaning under control...)

secret garden

For our 10 year anniversary, I want to go to the Gardens of Marqueyssac...

in France, in case you were wondering.

cheer up

Chronic Bitch face. I like it.

I've always just called it "Gramps face" after my mom's dad's infamous faces. He's got some real good ones. And we inherited all of them, although I think I'll acquire more as I age. A quality trait to pass on for sure.

book love

Oh my goodness I am dying over these hand embroidered book covers...

Gorgeous. My hand is cramping just looking at all those tiny details.

Have you noticed how Penguin keeps bringing back oldies with irresistible new covers? I want to buy them all, I'd have the most beautiful book collection around!

My dad had a copy of Black Beauty that he turned into a safe- for his squirt gun. I wonder if it's still around?

mugshot

(Vintage 1920's mugshots from the Sydney police archives)

I love the composition in this one. The chair, the puddles on the floor, the way she's looking away from the camera. Such an emotionally evoking photo. They don't make 'em like they used to.

When Danny and I went to San Fran last year, I saw an exhibit at the MOMA that was a collection of vintage crime scene photos. Chilling, grainy and real. Sometimes I miss film. I showed them to Danny, trying to explain why I fell in love with photography in the first place. I was sure he had never even seen a "real" photograph before. With silver ghosting and detail that even the finest digital camera has yet to capture- I think he got the message. I wanted him to fall in love with it too. He still won't use the big black Cannon, but he will grab the iPhone every now and again. He's got a good eye, he just needs more time to really love it.

book sculpture

Brian Dettmer is the amazing artist of these sculptures. He cuts out the books- nothing is added.

Incredible.

The degree of detail is stunning.

His ability to see what can be created is so unique. I admire his talent SO much! I want one for my very own!

Growing up we totally had an old dictionary that looked like this- I remember having to thumb through it to do homework. Man, things have changed!

the mystery of dinner

I am officially in the worst dinner making rut I have ever had in our almost 5 years of cohabitation. Honestly, I dropped the ball a few weeks ago, but the past 2 weeks have been an absolute joke.

I don't want to make anything, ever. I am so sick of all the tried and true favorites, and recently Danny has shot down 2 of my go to "easy and painless" options.

If anyone has any suggestions, please tell me before my husband leaves me! (jk!)

tweet tweet

Yes, another little shadowbox with birds. (I'm a little obsessed)

BFF's

Flower patch.

I'm so glad I had some brown burlap in my stash for the tree trunk! I think it works perfectly.

The best news?

It's in my etsy shop.

lil bunny foo foo

Another adorable and perfectly written pattern from mmmcrafts.

I used fluffy Moda wool for the bunny, and Moda's It's a Hoot charm pack for the blanket and ears. One charm pack will make 2 quilts- so I have a girl version all cut out and ready to be sewn!
