renegade '12 part one- my booth

After Portland, I had about a week and a half to get ready for Renegade. Whoops.

I already knew what I wanted to make, and I had sold some stuff in the meantime, and I just let time slip by. I remember Wednesday evening Maloree texted me "I'm so excited to see you this Saturday!" and I about died because I was so far behind on getting anything sewn. I had just taken down the air mattress from when Craig stayed with us, and in 2 days I'd have to put it back up. I got absolutely nothing finished that week.

I got all my stuff together- I piled the patterns on the floor, all the fabrics for each pattern, and I cut everything out in one day. I was impressed that it only took one day, but I was not impressed with myself for long! I made 2 monkeys, 4 kitties, 5 tag-a-long dolls and 2 yarn haired dolls, plus a Operation Incognito set. I was planning on making some Wee Mouse Tin House guys and some Travel Wee's, but I ran out of time.

Photobucket
While sweeping up after making the monkeys, I accidentally knocked over my already broken button case. They are still in a pile on the floor waiting to be sorted!

Photobucket
Here are the monkeys and kitties!

Photobucket
Here are the tag-a-long dolls.

Photobucket
Blondie bun doll.

Photobucket
And mermaid hair doll.

I usually name them all- but I just didn't have time!

Photobucket
I always wish I took work in progress photos- but I never remember. And when I do remember, my studio is in shambles and I'm too embarrased to take them. But here is a monkey before sewing him together. Most of all of the work is done before sewing him together and stuffing.

Photobucket
And what he looks like all sandwiched together and pinned like crazy.

Photobucket
The fair was at the Fort Mason center, which is just past Fisherman's Wharf. It sits right along the ocean. It was such a beautiful weekend, the weather was perfect and there was just enough of a cool breeze to keep the place not too hot (with all those people!) but also not too cool.

(Really shitty photo of the really cool map they had hanging at the entrance.)

So, these photos were taken the second day. I didn't take any the first day, I guess I just completely forgot! Yes me, the person that takes photos of every tiny detail forgets to take photos of really important milestones. That's me!

Photobucket
I had this vision of a grey table with a white scalloped border- I also made those like the day before the show! Luckily I made my sign forever ago!

Photobucket
I hate taking photos of my booth. You can't "see" it really, becaus eof all the background stuff that's always going on. But you get the idea.

Photobucket
Danny turned out to be an excellent business manager. Here he is hanging the aprons all nice so that the pockets are all facing outward. His idea. He also set up Square on his iPad for me by going on my website, downloading photos of each thing and putting them into the system. Then when I'd make a sale, all I had to do was hit the photo, and it would ring it up, tax and all. Awesome.

Photobucket
I had these awesome business cards made up just for the show, and I decided to order an extra box for whatever. I'm glad I did, because I went through 100 on the first day!

Photobucket
Nobody really bought the aprons, or the kitty pillows. I wasn't surprised about the aprons, nobody here in California likes them. But I usually sell out of the kitty pillows.

Photobucket
I sold out of most of the dolls and the Sleepover Pals on the first day. I didn't expect that!

Photobucket
I thought the monkeys and kitties would sell better- that's why I put all my focus into making them for the show. Making the dolls is easier (they are much less detailed) If I would of know that, I could of made a ton more dolls. Oh well- knowledge for next time!

Photobucket
I totally thought I'd sell these too- I only had time to make one set, so I was planning on taking special orders. But nobody bought it. A ton of people played and laughed with it, just no takers.

Photobucket
And nobody bought her, I thought she'd be the first doll to go. But instead it was the blondie bun girl.

Photobucket
It was packed, both days.

Afterwards, we packed up the car and went out to eat at Umami Burger. Our friend Jane gave us a gift certificate for there months ago- but we are never in that neighborhood so we never went. But it was pretty close to the event, so we finally cashed it in!

Photobucket
Tempura onion rings. Mmmmmmm!

Photobucket
Cali burger. Oh man, it was so good. We will definitely be back! Hopefully sooner rather than later!

Stay tuned for part 2: The Vendors!

playing catch up...

Since January, I have gotten out of a lot of good habits that I used to have.

Like blogging.

And cleaning up after myself in the kitchen no, actually in general. My counters are sticky and covered in dirty dishes, there are thread and felt bits all around the house, piles of fabric and unfinished projects on my sewing room floor, and dirty clothes on the bedroom floor. I used to NEVER leave clothes on the floor. Probably since Kobe would pee on anything left on the floor, so I learned quickly not to do that. But now that she's gone...I must have forgotten.

And drinking water.

But I have gotten into a few new good habits since then as well.

Like managing my time better. Breaking up the day doing different tasks has made my projects go faster and the frustrating parts less frustrating. Like working on a sewing project for a few hours then getting housework done then going to the store then relaxing and making dinner when Danny gets home. As opposed to sewing for 8 hours straight, not cleaning, not going to the store, not making dinner and then getting a serious case of sewers block that would last forever and projects left hanging and not getting finished.

Going out by myself. Since I learned to drive stick- I am free to go wherever. It's been nice to go to Ikea and check out the other parts of town that were so hard to get to by public transportation. I found a scrapbook store in the richmond district- I called ahead to see if they had a die cutting room, and surprisingly enough- they did. I asked what their selection was like and the girl said they had tons of stuff.

I went, and I almost laughed.

They had like 30 different sheets of paper. One lonely little rack. As far as their die cut room- they had one alphabet and a bunch of tags. And by a bunch I mean like 10.

I'm used to Utah scrapbook stores- with walls full of trim and stickers, with so many racks of paper that you couldn't count if you tried. And the die cut room? Everything you can think of. Hundreds of dies.

I guess it ain't that popular here. Sigh.

So, lets see what I've been up to over the last few months. Yikes, has it really been months since I was a good blogger? Bigger sigh.

I also made a quilt. It's almost finished. My mom got it back from the quilters (yes I sent to Utah to my fav quilter) and she just sent it back on Friday so I should be getting it any time soon. As soon as I bind it- I'll post tons of photos!

I've also been really into embroidery. I made something for to give to Danny for our anniversary, and I did a little bird stitching that I need to take photos of.

Oh, and I have been making Loo-loo some fantastic goodies for her birthday. She got an American Girl doll for Christmas, so I've been making doll clothes like crazy. And bedding. Yes. Anthro inspired doll bedding. (I know what you are thinking. Is this really what I do with all my time? And the answer is yes. Yes I do. Also- yes I know how incredibly lucky I am- I'm living my dream life.) I think I'm trying to make up for being gone with gifts- am I a horrible sister? Or a really, really good one?

And terrariums. Like totally obsessed. I made a cute little one for me. It has a moss hill and a fake tree and a little teeny paper house and some red mushrooms that I made out of clay. And then Danny said he wanted to make one too- so I got him a container, and he hasn't made it yet. Need to take photos of those too!

And I finally made a doll for me. Loo-loo asked me one day "When you make a doll for you? Hmmm?" So I took her advice. And she is lovely. Her hair is brown- and it's in a gigantic bun on the top of her head. All last week I was obsessed with drafting my own clothes patterns for her- I got one good outfit, she just needs shoes.

I seriously stared at patterns and fabric all day last wednesday. Then finally at 8 p.m. I figured it all out and blasted out an outfit.

An outfit that I have tried to make for myself- and failed. But I did it! In miniature, at least.

I've decided that I need to take a seamstress or a tailor class. I have no idea how to draw patterns. I need some basics!

laura's first birthday

Remember sweet baby Laura's miraculous entry into this world? I talked about it here. It's been a year- can you even believe it? The time has flown by!

I was contacted in October by Kim's MIL to make something special for Laura's first birthday.

Photobucket
So I made her some Sleepover Pals using the leftover scraps from the quilt I made her.

Photobucket
Cute hu?

Photobucket
Oh how I love this collection. That singing bird kills me every time I look at it!

Photobucket
I made the girls differently than the ones I have made in the past. The ballish arms and buns are not only a pain to sew, but they just aren't sturdy enough for years of play. So I just did pigtails and no arms.

Photobucket
Sweet dreams little ones!

Photobucket
Of course, I also made Laura a doll of her. Kim has wanted me to make one for forever- so I decided to surprise them!

Photobucket
Rickrack ribbon is SO MUCH EASIER to work with than rickrack. I love it!

Photobucket
I totally didn't realize it until Kim pointed it out- but the doll perfectly coordinates with the shower Nan and I threw for Kim last spring! Haha. I was being very picky about the color choices- it took me awhile to decide on these. Funny.

Photobucket

Photobucket
I will remember this day for the rest of my life. The suspense was killing me- all of us- to see whether or not Laura would breathe on her own when born. When her grandpa called me and told me that she was here and she was screaming, I felt such joy! I picked Linus up and twirled him around- and told him that his sister was here! (remember I was watching Linus while Kim gave birth at the hospital)

Photobucket

Photobucket
And here she is! Saying Gimme my doll mama!!!

Photobucket
And kisses...

Photobucket
Another perfect friendship. I'm so happy to have these photos- it's like the last step of making a doll- seeing the little girl happily holding her.

sleepover pals for leah

These little gals have been quite a hit.

Isn't she sweet?

Little Leah will fall in love with her new pals, just like I have...
